Open Source Schulung:

Programming Go

"Go" is a new system programming language coming out of Google. From the Go-Website: "The Go programming language is an open source project to make programmers more productive. Go is expressive, concise, clean, and efficient. Its concurrency mechanisms make it easy to write programs that get the most out of multi core and networked machines, while its novel type system enables flexible and modular program construction. Go compiles quickly to machine code yet has the convenience of garbage collection and the power of run-time reflection. It’s a fast, statically typed, compiled language that feels like a dynamically typed, interpreted language." Go has been designed by some of the most experienced programming language designers (Rob Pike, Ken Thompson, and others). Go was released in 2009 and since then has found its way into many real world projects inside Google and in many other places. Go has the potential to become a major programming language.

Miek Gieben is a long time Go programmer and the author of "Learning Go", an introductory book on the Go programming language that is available under a creative commons license. Miek has written many Go libraries, among them a library for DNS packet processing in Go that is used to drive the geolocation nameserver for the Network Time Protocol (NTP) pool project used by many Unix/Linux distributions. Miek uses Go for his daily work at Google.

This is an introduction to the Go language from Google. Its aim is to provide a guide to this new and innovative language. The intended audience of this course is people who are familiar with programming and know some programming languages, be it C, C++, Perl, Java, Erlang, Scala or Haskell. This is not a course that teaches how to program, this is a course that just teaches how to use Go. Attendees should have basic knowledge on how to use a text editor for editing source code (vi, gedit, emacs ...) and how to operate a unix shell command line.
