Linux network services

You are already utilizing Linux and now aim at automatizing its administration and at deploying further networking services?

In this training course, you will learn about everything important to the successfull use of Linux in a corporate network, from automatization and user administration up to security issues. According to custom at the Linuxhotel, by means of practical case studies, enhanced by hints and leads provided by network administrators adept at deploying Linux in heterogenous networks (i.e. combinations of Windows and Linux).

Trainer und Dozenten

Ingo Wichmann and Stefan Hofmann will accompany you as experienced, LPI certified administrators. There is no "pre-fab training" during our courses: For our tutors, system administration on behalf of the client is daily practice.

Voraussetzungen

The following basic Linux skills (e.g. from our Linux administration basics course or comparable training courses) will be assumed as prerequisites:

  • Unix file system permissions
  • Software installation and packet administration
  • Boot time concepts and system services
  • Network installation basics
  • Remote administration with OpenSSH

You should be acquainted with common shell commands and concepts of Linux.

Networking basics

  • Set up IP addresses and routes
  • Network analysis and trouble shouting

DNS: nameserver Bind

  • DNS basics
  • Zonen und Domains
  • Master and slave concept

Email

  • SMTP with Postfix
  • IMAP with Dovecot or Cyrus

Web

  • Webserver Apache
  • Webproxy Squid

Security

  • Data encryption, SSL
  • packet filtering with iptables

User management

  • Unified user administration in a heterogenous network with PAM, NSS and Samba
  • Connecting to central administration of user data (e.g. LDAP, Samba4 AD)

Kurszeiten

Wer möchte, reist bis 22 Uhr am Vortag an und nutzt den Abend bereits zum Fachsimpeln am Kamin oder im Park.

An den Kurstagen dann von 9-18 Uhr (mit 2 Kaffee- und 1 Mittagspause) etwa 60% Schulungen und 40% Übungen. Selbstverständlich arbeitet jeder Teilnehmer am von uns gestellten Notebook oft parallel zum Referenten mit.

Anschließend Abendessen und Angebote für Fachsimpeln, Ausflüge uvm. Wir schaffen eine Atmosphäre, in der Fachleute sich ungezwungen austauschen. Wer das nicht will, wird zu nichts gezwungen und findet auch jederzeit Ruhe.
